2024-25 Grassroots Football Season Kicks Off with New Initiatives to Enhance Safety and Fair Play

Some important updates as we embark on 2024-25.

As the 2024-25 grassroots football season begins across the country, we are excited to announce several new interventions aimed at creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.

These initiatives are designed to foster respect, enhance discipline, and ensure that everyone – players, coaches, officials, and fans – can experience the beautiful game in the best possible way.

1. Introduction of a New Code of Conduct

At the heart of these changes is a brand-new Code of Conduct. This set of guidelines outlines clear expectations for behaviour both on and off the pitch, emphasizing respect for officials, opponents, and fellow team members. All players, coaches, and supporters are expected to adhere to these standards, promoting positive engagement at every level of the game.

2. Revamped Sinbins

Sinbins are also receiving an upgrade this season. Originally introduced as a way to temporarily remove players who commit dissent or other forms of misconduct, the revamped sinbin system will now apply more consistently across matches, ensuring fair and proportional consequences for unsporting behaviour. This step is expected to improve the flow of games while holding players accountable for their actions.

3. New Penalty Point Accumulation System

In an effort to address persistent foul play, a new penalty point accumulation system has been introduced. Players will now receive points for yellow and red card offenses, with accumulated points leading to suspensions. This system will encourage better discipline over the course of the season, with long-term consequences for repeated violations.

4. Continued Points Deductions

Finally, the continuation of team points deductions remains a key tool in addressing serious breaches of conduct. Teams that fail to comply with the new Code of Conduct or accumulate excessive penalty points risk facing points deductions, reinforcing the importance of fair play at every level.

These measures will work together to ensure that grassroots football remains a safe, respectful, and enjoyable space for all involved.

“We all have a collective responsibility in helping to improve the behaviour and culture in our game and our new Code of Conduct sets this out clearly. Together, we can create a safe and enjoyable environment for all.”
