This Cerebral Palsy (CP) awareness month, here at Surrey FA we are actively trying to expand the CP football offerings in Surrey, as well as raising awareness. 

On Saturday 12th March, Surrey FA teamed up with Beacon Hill FC and local physiotherapists ‘Children In Motion’ to deliver a free Cerebral Palsy and Frame Football taster session at the Edge Leisure Centre in Haslemere. 

The session offered a fun and inclusive environment for all participants, of any ability or age group. 

It proved to be an inspirational and positive day for all the attendees, with one of the parents who attended having the following to say: 

“Thank you so much to Surrey FA & Children in Motion for the CP & Frame Football taster session! Harry loved it and came out buzzing. The coaches were amazing at keeping all the children engaged for entire time. As a parent it was so nice to have an activity for Harry on a Saturday, finally he could spend the day looking forward to it in the same way his siblings do theirs. It was also great that his siblings could join in! Well done everyone involved - Harry can’t wait to come along again and play for Beacon Hill FC!”

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer Eve Roberts was also in attendance and had this to say: 

“It was great to see so many participants in attendance, with a variety of different ability levels and ages! Seeing the successes from the event and the positive impact it has on all involved has spurred us on to continue this work further, expanding and raising awareness for this format of the game. The next step is for this to become a regular weekly session under Beacon Hill FC and Children in Motion, allowing these successes to occur regularly amongst participants. We are very excited to see this happen!”
