Green Football's Great Save

Join The Great Save!

Green Football's Great Save campaign runs from 11 March to 2 April 2025.

Football is more than just a game - it’s a global passion that unites communities, fuels dreams, and inspires millions. But climate change is putting its future at risk, and one unexpected culprit is the kit we wear.

The Hidden Cost of Football Kit

Every year, an estimated 100,000 tonnes of sportswear end up in UK landfills. That’s the equivalent of 500 million football shirts being discarded - 951 shirts every minute. The production and disposal of this kit contribute significantly to carbon emissions, water waste, and environmental degradation. But there’s a way to tackle this issue while keeping the spirit of football alive.

Introducing Green Football’s Great Save

Green Football is harnessing the passion of the football community to take meaningful action against climate change. Fans, clubs, players, pundits, broadcasters, grassroots teams, and schools are uniting for Green Football’s Great Save, a movement to rescue kit from landfill.

How You Can Make a Difference

Instead of throwing old kit away, you can:

Donate it to local schools or charities

Sell it via Kitround and generate cash for your club

Reuse it to extend its lifespan

By taking part, you’re not only saving money but also helping others in your community who may not otherwise have the kit they need to play. More importantly, you’ll be playing a part in protecting our planet.

The Power of Keeping Kit in Play

Extending the life of your kit by just nine more months can reduce its carbon, water, and waste footprint by up to 30%. That’s a small effort for a big impact.
