Surrey FA Referee Awards Celebrate Dedication and Excellence
The Harbour Hotel in Guildford played host to an unforgettable evening on 27th February, as Surrey FA celebrated the achievements and dedication of referees at the annual Surrey FA Referee Awards. The event, hosted by Sutton United’s Adrian Barry, brought together referees from across the county to recognise their incredible service to the game.
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of Long Service Awards, honouring referees who have dedicated 15, 25, and an outstanding 45 years to officiating. Their commitment to the sport is truly commendable, and Surrey FA is immensely grateful for their dedication to ensuring football in the county thrives.
In addition to celebrating long service, the event also recognised the referees who have been appointed to officiate in the Adult County Cup finals. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional skill and professionalism, earning the opportunity to officiate some of Surrey’s most prestigious fixtures.
Premier League and FIFA referee Andy Madley was the guest of honour, presenting the awards and delivering a captivating presentation on the importance of being prepared for kick-off. His insights and experiences from officiating at the highest level left everyone in the room inspired and motivated.
Surrey FA was also delighted to welcome FA Referee Managers Marc Birkett and Sophie Dennington. Marc spoke about the positive strides being made in referee recruitment across the UK, reinforcing the bright future of officiating. Additionally, representatives from Specsavers, Davinia and Orami, attended in support of their sponsorship of the Surrey Senior County Cup.
A brilliant evening was had by all, filled with recognition, inspiration, and appreciation for those who play a crucial role in the game. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the long service award winners for their unwavering commitment and congratulate all officials selected for our County Cup finals. Surrey football is in safe hands thanks to the dedication of our referees.
