Surrey FA Marks a Successful Play Safe Weekend with 67 Clubs Uniting for Safeguarding
This past weekend, Surrey FA proudly took part in the nationwide Play Safe campaign, with 67 clubs across the county playing a pivotal role in highlighting the importance of safeguarding in football.
The Play Safe weekend, which focuses on ensuring that football is a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, saw a tremendous response from grassroots clubs, players, coaches, and volunteers alike.
Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone involved in the game, and Surrey FA is committed to reinforcing this message at every level. From youth teams to adult leagues, the unified efforts of our clubs during the Play Safe weekend showcased the dedication of the entire football community to maintaining a secure and supportive environment for all participants.
A Collective Effort for a Safer Game
Throughout the weekend, teams displayed their support by wearing Play Safe armbands, holding educational sessions on safeguarding, and engaging with players and spectators to raise awareness of the role every individual plays in ensuring football remains safe. From club officials to parents on the sidelines, the emphasis was placed on everyone’s duty to recognise and report concerns, creating a culture where safeguarding is central.
Across the county, children and young players were at the heart of this campaign, reinforcing the message that safeguarding begins with ensuring their well-being, both on and off the pitch. Coaches, volunteers, and referees worked closely together to promote an atmosphere where young players felt supported and empowered to speak up, should they have any concerns.
Empowering the Football Community
Phil Rendell, Surrey FA’s Safeguarding Manager commented: “This Play Safe weekend has been a true testament to the power of teamwork in safeguarding. We saw 67 clubs come together to send a strong message that safeguarding is not just a box-ticking exercise but a fundamental aspect of our game. It’s about creating a safe space where everyone, particularly young players, can enjoy football without fear or harm.”
As the Play Safe weekend concludes, Surrey FA remains committed to embedding safeguarding principles into the fabric of football in the county. We extend our gratitude to every club, coach, volunteer, and spectator who played their part in making this weekend a resounding success.
Together, we can continue to build a safer and more inclusive future for football across Surrey.
