Smart Sport FC tell their story to the nation
Surrey FA affiliated team, Smart Sport FC, is the focus of England Learning’s Introduction to Coaching Football Case study.
Smart Sport FC, based in Croydon, welcomed the FA to one of their training sessions to tell their story to the nation.
The club started in April 2021 and was originally set up to offer sessions for children in the local community. Since then they have created a provision specifically for girls led by female coaches. However, with only founder Samira Ali coaching, they made a concerted effort to encourage and develop women from their community to become coaches.
Supported by the FA and Sharon Muxworthy, the Regional Coach Development Officer for Women and Girls, they have grown to support five aspiring female coaches. These coaches are now developing their skills and delivering sessions with confidence after completing the Introduction to Coaching Football course.
Surrey FA Football development officer for Women and Girls, Emma Eaton, had the following to say:
“Smart Sport FC is a great example of how we not only need to focus on developing the next generation of female players, but also the importance of developing female coaches and supporting them so they can gain confidence in themselves and their coaching abilities".
