What is Unite Through Football?

Football has the power to bring people together, break down barriers, and create a sense of belonging. Unite Through Football (UTF) is a nationwide initiative designed to support asylum seekers and refugees, helping them integrate into local communities through the beautiful game.

Launched by The Surrey Football Association (SFA) and sponsored by SBHL, a leading provider of temporary accommodation for asylum seekers, UTF provides safe and inclusive football opportunities while fostering social connections, improving well-being, and promoting inclusion.

How Does the Programme Work?

Now entering its third season, UTF will expand across the South of England, offering a structured programme where asylum seekers can:

• Play football in a welcoming and supportive environment
• Meet new people and form friendships within local communities
• Access support networks that promote inclusion and well-being
• Engage with local football clubs, coaches, and volunteers

With the support of Surrey FA, County FAs, local councils, police, and grassroots football clubs, UTF is more than just a football programme—it’s a vital initiative that helps asylum seekers feel at home in a new community.

Recent global events have highlighted the importance of building cohesive societies and offering support to those in need. Through UTF, asylum seekers gain more than just a place to play football—they gain a sense of belonging, hope, and opportunity.
